What Is a Homoglyph?

A homoglyph is a character from a different alphabet that looks identical, or nearly identical, to a normal letter — for example, a Cyrillic 'а' that looks exactly like a Latin 'a' but is a different character underneath. These can end up in text through copy-pasting, some fonts, or occasionally through someone deliberately using them to disguise a word (a common trick in phishing links and spam). This tool scans text for characters that look like standard Latin letters but aren't, and converts them back to the real thing.

See the Difference Before & After Cleaning

Hidden artifacts and zero-width characters cause unexpected layout shifts, regex crashes, and AI detector flags. Here is how clean text compares.

Technical Character & Feature Breakdown

Our browser engine detects and strips non-printable unicode points, LLM clichés, and metadata streams automatically.

Character / Flag NameIdentifier / SampleImpact & Behavior
Cyrillic Small Letter aU+0430 ('а')Looks identical to Latin 'a' (U+0061) but breaks keyword searches and tricks AI detectors.
Cyrillic Small Letter eU+0435 ('е')Confusable character replacing Latin 'e' (U+0065) causing secret character watermarks.
Cyrillic Small Letter oU+043E ('о')Cyrillic look-alike for Latin 'o' (U+006F) used in homoglyph domain phishing attacks.
Full-Width Latin LettersU+FF01-U+FF5EWide unicode symbols replacing standard ASCII characters that break database constraints.

How It Runs

Everything happens in your browser, not on a server

Unlike tools that upload your text to a server for processing, this runs entirely as JavaScript on your device. Nothing you paste in is sent anywhere, logged, or stored.

Your questions, answered

Why are homoglyphs used in text?expand_more

Homoglyphs are used to bypass keyword filters, evade AI plagiarism detectors, or create look-alike phishing domain names.

Can I paste a URL to check it?expand_more

Yes — pasting a domain name is one of the more common uses, since a single swapped character is nearly impossible to spot by eye.
