What Counts as an Invisible Character?
This is the broad version of our character-cleaning tools: it removes every common type of invisible Unicode character in one pass, rather than just one kind. Zero-width space takes up no space but counts as a character and breaks search and text matching. Non-breaking space looks like a normal space but prevents line wrapping, and is common in text copied from web pages. Byte order mark (BOM) is a marker sometimes left at the very start of a file, invisible but can break file parsing. Soft hyphen is invisible unless a word wraps at that point, where it becomes a visible hyphen.
